DUO Restaurant Group Launches “Caring for Our Kids in Crisis” Campaign

Encouraging Donations to South Texas Alliance for Orphans to Aid Foster Children

DUO Restaurant Group, the parent company of Paloma Blanca Mexican Cuisine and Chris Madrid’s, announced today the “Caring for Our Kids in Crisis” Campaign. The immediate goal of the campaign is to generate awareness of the foster care system crisis, invite individuals and private sector organizations to contribute financially, and acknowledge support on social media in an effort to encourage others to stand behind the cause.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of owning these restaurants is the ability to leverage them for critical causes,” said Richard Peacock, president of DUO Restaurant Group. “As we’ve learned more about this foster care crisis through our friendship with Jennifer Smith, the executive director of the South Texas Alliance for Orphans (STAO), we knew we had to become involved if we truly intend to live into our mission: To love on people thru what we do.”

There are almost 1,000 children and youth who lack a safe place to live due to the challenges within the foster care system and the COVID-19 pandemic. “We hope individuals and private sector organizations will join us and our friends at DUO Restaurant Group as we seek to support and encourage these children and their caseworkers,” said Jennifer Smith. “There are several ways to quickly help, from donating on our website to emailing us restaurant and retail gift cards, to volunteering to babysit. However, someone chooses to step up, these children and caseworkers will feel seen, loved and valued.”

It is simple to make a gift that will have immediate impact:

1) Donate directly through the STAO website

2) Email electronic gift cards to Jennifer Smith at jennifer@alliance4orphans.org

3) Sign Up to become a certified babysitter

STAO will make certain all donations go towards purchasing needed basic items, such as clothing and toiletries. Gift cards will also be given to overloaded case workers to provide meals and excursions.

To learn more about this capacity crisis, opportunities related to foster parenting and adoption, as well as to receive a “Caring for Our Kids in Crisis” Campaign packet electronically, contact South Texas Alliance for Orphans by emailing jennifer@alliance4orphans.org.

About South Texas Alliance for Orphans

Officially launched in 2016 with support and funds from First Presbyterian Church, The South Texas Alliance for Orphans was created by a group of trailblazers from the foster/adopt community, including the Founder and Executive Director, church leaders, foster/adopt families and child placing agency professionals, to fulfill the Biblical call to fill the gap between the church, state and community organizations, and the overburdened local foster care system. Our vision is to see that every one of the approximately 8,000 children in Region 8 (Bexar, Kendall, Comal and Bandera counties and 24 surrounding counties) is part of a safe and thriving family through our support of 40 churches in foster/adopt ministry, as well as multiple programs to serve foster, adoptive and kinship families and their caseworkers.  For more information, visit www.alliance4orphans.org.
